Cicada emerging — What does it to do with vides games? — Art
Cicadas are part of nature and also have a role in different cultures around the world. But what exactly is a cicada anyway, and how does their emergence relate to video games?
Cicadas are insects with a unique life cycle. Some cicada species emrge from the ground every 13 or 17 years in groups called broods they are named in Latin numbers. Periodical cicadas broods live incredibly long life cycle, unlike their non-periodical counterparts which emerges every summer.
cicadas spent most of their lives underground as nymphs, feeding on tree roots. When the time is right, they emerge. By shedding exoskeletons, lay eggs and then die. This phenomenon attract attention due to the massive numbers and loud buzzing.
It’s intriguing to consider that the next time Broods XIX and XII emerge together will be in 2245. This begs the question: what kind of world will they be emerging into? “according to BBC”
I believe that video games are more than mere entertainment; they serve as cultural mediums through which we can explore and express ideas. Just as cicadas have intriguing life cycles, the themes and narratives within video games can reflect the complexities of life and nature.
The emergence of cicadas serves as a reminder of the interconnectedness of nature and culture, and how these themes can be explored through the art of video games.
The emergence of cicadas coincides with the release of Unleaving on Steam. It inspired me to write about this event.
The last time this emergence occurred was 200 years ago, underscoring the cyclical nature of cicada appearances. This cyclical aspect is reminiscent of the themes we see in video games and in life itself. I’m also sharing some photos of the process and inspiration of the cicada as a character in the video game Unleaving.
